La Flor de la Alpujarra
Who Whe Are?

La Flor de La AlpujarraEquality
The Flor de La Alpujarra is an Andalusian Cooperative made up of about 47 members, 43% of whom are women.

Promoting organic growing
Of the 47 members, 35 have organic certification, and the cooperative statutes state that any member who does not already have organic status is obliged to start the process of certifying all, or a percentage of his or her prodcution within 5 years of joining the coop. This, we believe, is the way to promote organic production in the area and ensure that farmland is cared for and managed in a way that respects the environment.

The Flor de La Alpujarra cooperative was formed in 2006 with the aim of providing olive farmers of the region with a local organic mill to process their crops.

Fair prices for farmers

The Co-op also aims to encourage social and economic development of the area, by offering a fair price to its producers.  In order to achieve this, the co-op is developing direct sales to local markets and to consumer groups. In this way, it's the farmer who receives the highest possible price for his or her crop.

Direct sales

Through direct sales and development of non intermediary chains in the distribution of our olive oil we can achieve much fairer prices for consumers and producers. We're against  speculation in the food markets and we do believe that just through a link between consumers and producer organisations we can strive for the building of another social and economic model.

Protecting the environment

We are growers who have choosen to cultivate our olive groves without the use of insecticides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers and we are commited to a truly sustainable approach to farming. We belive that by supporting traditional farming, strengthening internal markets and making direct sales, the cooperative can acts as a force of socio-economic change in the region.

Achieving this goal, is the only way to ensure that the land continues to be farmed by men and women who believe that the rural environment should be protected and preserved by  making sustainable use of its natural ressources and maintaining local eco-systems and bio-diversity.
